The Problem

Cooking is the #1 cause of home fires. It isn't close.

49%

of all reported home fires start with cooking equipment.

3min

is roughly how long it takes an unattended grease fire to become unsurvivable without intervention.

0sec

of warning a smoke alarm gives you before the fire has already spread — it only tells you after.

How OBEX Works

Five senses, one decision, made in milliseconds.

OBEX doesn't wait for smoke to drift upward. It fuses five independent signals to confirm real fire before anything else reacts.

01

Thermal Vision

A 32×24 thermal array reads the heat map of your stovetop continuously — spotting abnormal rate-of-rise before flame is even visible.

02

mmWave Presence

Radar detects whether anyone's actually in the kitchen — even standing still — so OBEX knows when a stove is truly unattended.

03

Smoke & Gas Chemistry

Photoelectric smoke plus CO/VOC sensing catches grease and electrical fires alike — not just the ones that trip a standard alarm.

04

Voice AI

Say "OBEX, check the stove" from another room. It answers back — and can walk anyone in the house through what's happening.

05

Autonomous Suppression

Once fire is confirmed by two or more sensors independently, OBEX triggers a targeted suppression burst at the source — no phone, no app, no person required to act.

The Latest Build

Refined down to the finish.

Every revision brings OBEX closer to disappearing into your kitchen — until the moment it doesn't.

Inside The Hub

Every part earns its place.

The complete OBEX system: the sensor hub connected to its complete OBEX system with its FK-5-1-12 clean-agent cylinder

The Complete System

One hub. One cylinder.
Nothing else to think about.

Above your ceiling line sits the part you never see: a 4.4 lb (2 kg) cylinder of FK-5-1-12 clean agent — plumbed directly to the hub's nozzle and always under pressure, ready before you ever need it.

  • Clean agent — non-toxic, non-conductive, environmentally friendly. Safe around food, pets, and electronics.
  • No residue disaster — unlike dry-chemical extinguishers, it evaporates clean. Dinner is ruined; the kitchen isn't.
  • Recessed install — cylinder and plumbing hide between ceiling joists. All you see is the faceplate.
  • Owner-replaceable cylinder — after a discharge, you purchase a replacement cylinder and fit it yourself; no tools or technician required.

Installation

Installed before
dinner's ready.

No plumber. No electrician. No rewiring. If you can hang a ceiling light, you can install OBEX — and if you'd rather not, Founders units include free professional installation.

  1. 01

    Cut one opening

Use the included template to cut a single round opening between two ceiling joists above your cooking zone.

  2. 02

    Mount the cylinder

The bracket and FK-5-1-12 cylinder slide up into the ceiling cavity and lock to the joist. No plumbing hookup — the system is self-contained.

  3. 03

    Clip on. Calibrate. Done.

The faceplate clicks on, the app pairs, and a 5-minute calibration learns your kitchen's normal cooking heat. About 45 minutes, start to finish.

The Sentinel

Built to disappear into your ceiling. Built to never miss.

One sealed unit above your cooking zone, designed to the UL 300A standard (certification in progress) and running AI on-device — it keeps working when your Wi-Fi doesn't.

  • 2 seconds from ignition to suppressant deployment — patent-pending threat verification, no app needed
  • 360° IR thermal + optical sensing with night vision, plus smoke, heat, CO, and gas-leak detection
  • 4.4 lb FK-5-1-12 agent cylinder — clean, non-toxic, non-conductive; swaps in minutes after a discharge
  • Two-way voice — multi-tone siren with crystal-clear spoken instructions, and it answers when you ask
  • Covers up to 500 sq ft — Wi-Fi 6 + Zigbee, with battery backup through outages

Two-Way Voice

It doesn't just alarm. It talks.

A high-sensitivity microphone and a high-output speaker make OBEX the only fire device you can actually have a conversation with.

A Tuesday night
You

"OBEX, check the stove."

OBEX

"Front-left burner at a steady simmer. Nothing out of the ordinary. I'll keep watching."

You

"Thanks. Goodnight."

The night it matters
OBEX

"Grease fire on the front-left burner. Deploying suppressant. Stay clear of the stove."

OBEX

"Fire is out. Thermal confirms no reignition. Ventilate the room — I've notified your phone and everyone home."

You

"…thank you."

Detection to Suppression

Watch the ring. It tells the whole story.

The status ring on every OBEX hub speaks one language — green, amber, red. Scroll the sequence and watch it live.

T+0.0s

Ignition detected

A grease flare erupts on the front-left burner. The 360° IR thermal array catches it the instant it ignites — day or night.

T+0.4s

Anyone near the stove?

OBEX scans the cooking area for people and pets. If someone's there, it speaks first — giving them a clear window to respond before anything deploys.

T+0.8s

Threat verified

Patent-pending threat verification cross-checks thermal, smoke, CO, and gas signatures. Steam and searing don't qualify. This does.

T+1.2s

Alarm — and the gas line is cut

Multi-tone siren, a clear spoken warning, and the smart valve closes the gas feeding the burner. The fire just lost its fuel supply.

T+2.0s

Suppressant deployed

Two seconds after ignition, the nozzle discharges FK-5-1-12 clean agent directly at the source. Non-toxic. Non-corrosive.

T+2.1s

Everyone who matters, notified

Your phone gets the alert and a live thermal snapshot. The 24/7 OBEX monitoring center is on it — and if no one responds, they dispatch the fire department with your address and incident feed.

T+9.0s

Verified out

Thermal imaging confirms extinguishment and watches for reignition. OBEX talks you through what happened — and files the incident report to your phone.

OBEX vs. The Alternatives

Everything else solves half the problem.

Heat-fuse suppressors act only after the fire is big enough to melt metal. Smoke alarms just shout. OBEX is the only one that sees, thinks, verifies, and acts.

Capability OBEX Heat-fuse suppressor Smart smoke alarm Extinguisher
Detects fire early AI vision + thermal, at ignition waits for a fuse to melt at 155–200°F ~ smoke only, often minutes in you are the detector
Verifies before acting multi-sensor threat verification burnt toast sets it off
Suppresses automatically in 2 seconds, clean agent ~ only once the fire is already large only if you're home, awake, and calm
Knows if someone's there radar presence sensing
Talks to your household two-way voice, spoken instructions siren only
Cuts the gas supply smart valve, automatic
Escalates to 911 monitoring center + fire dispatch "no monitoring" ~ phone notification only
Protects an empty home fully autonomous ~ triggers late, tells no one alerts a phone that can't act

The Alternative

Seven minutes is
a lifetime.

That's the average fire department response time. A grease fire takes the whole kitchen in under two. By the time the sirens arrive, they're not saving your kitchen — they're saving the neighbours'.

Questions

Everything you're wondering before you reserve.

Fire detection and suppression run entirely on-device — no cloud connection required to detect or act. A battery backup keeps OBEX online through short power outages; Wi-Fi is only needed for phone alerts and remote status.

Yes — OBEX has a high-sensitivity microphone and a high-output speaker. Ask it to check the stove from another room and it answers. During an incident it gives calm, spoken instructions, and anyone in the house can cancel a deployment by voice if it's a false start.

OBEX doesn't wait for you. It verifies the fire, cuts the gas line, deploys suppressant, and alerts your phone — all within seconds. Simultaneously, the 24/7 OBEX monitoring center reviews the incident, and if no one responds, they dispatch the fire department with your address and a live incident feed. The most common outcome: you come home to a kitchen that needs a wipe-down, not a rebuild.

No single sensor triggers suppression. Thermal rate-of-rise, radar presence, and smoke/gas chemistry all have to independently agree before OBEX arms — and you always get an alert with a cancel window before it fires.

Founders units include free professional installation — a technician mounts OBEX above your primary cook zone and pairs it to your app in under an hour. No rewiring required for most kitchens.

OBEX confirms extinguishment via thermal and sends a full incident report to your phone. The suppression cylinder is single-use — after a discharge you purchase a replacement cylinder and fit it yourself (no tools or technician needed), and OBEX walks you through re-arming in a few minutes.
